Institute for International Strategic and Security Studies focuses on three broad themes from both the global and the regional perspectives—the current dynamics and future trajectory for international strategic relations, theories for international strategic studies, and the international strategy of China. It also addresses the global, the regional and the issue-specific strategies of traditional and emerging powers as well as their short- and long-term impacts, and provides consultative advice to assist with China’s crafting of international strategy.Institute for Global Governance Studies
Institute for Global Governance Studies concentrates on global governance studies from both institutional and critical issue perspectives. The institutional studies focus on global political, security, development, cultural and other important institutions, their evolution and future development, and institutional building within each sub-area. In issue studies, it pays specialized attention to energy security, climate and environment change, international cooperation on the fight against terrorism, women’s issues, etc., most of which address nontraditional security and transnational issues.Institute for World Economy Studies
Institute for World Economy Studies concentrates on the comparative studies of economic development models, operation and reform of international financial and trade systems, and the foreign economic policies and relations of major economies. Institute for Foreign Policy Studies conducts foreign policy studies of China and the major powers. Its research tasks include illuminating the foreign policy practice and interactions between major powers, analyzing the diplomatic relations between China and those pivotal and major countries and regions, discussing critical and hotspot issues in China’s foreign policy, summarizing the experience and lessons drawn from China’s foreign policy implementation, and exploring the development of foreign policy theories with Chinese characteristics.Institute for Public Policy and Innovation Studies
The research of comparative politics and public policy has always been the key development content of domestic universities and research institutes. The Institute for Public Policy and Innovation Studies is a service agency for the construction of "Politics Level Subjects" of SIIS, the forefront of outreaching research field, the intermediary of communicating research of international and domestic problems, and the service platform of integrating the existing research resources of SIIS. The main work scope and research focus include: 1) the development of cosmopolis and region: researching the strategy of urban internationalization,city cluster and regional development; 2) global public policy: researching energy, health, immigrants, environment, resources, etc; 3) comparative politics: researching comparative government regime and political party; 4) public affairs management: researching international social management, non-profit organizations, local foreign affairs and the social management of network era.Institute for Taiwan, Hongkong & Macao Studies
Institute for Taiwan, Hongkong & Macao Studies conducts research based upon studies about the political, economic and social development in China's Taiwan,Hong Kong and Macao, along with two lines of research programs. One focuses on the practical and theoretical issues in the process of political and economic interactions both across the Straits and among the Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, with a particular eye to the new features and contents of "one country, two systerns" under new circumstances. The other focus area analyzes the major international actors' policies and relations vis-ã-vis Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
