The Center for European Studies, SIIS maintains a research focus on EU and the major member states of the European Union, such as Germany, France, and the Central and Eastern European countries. Its research issues cover European integration, U.S.-EU transatlantic relation, Sino-European relation, NATO and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) of EU, industry and innovation policy of EU, public health policy of EU, quadrilateral relations among China, Europe, U.S.A and Russia, China and Central and Eastern European Countries Cooperation mechanism. The center is made up of about 10 members. Prof. Dr. Zhang Yinghong is director of the Center. Dr. Long Jing is deputy director of the Center. The Center for European Studies is the member of the Chinese Association for European Studies (CAES), the member of the China-CEEC Think Tanks Network, the member of Global Partnership Center of Central and Eastern European Countries and China, the member of Shanghai Institute for European Studies (SIES). The Center has established close relationship with academic institutes and think tanks in Europe.Center for West Asian & African Studies

The Center for Middle East Studies primarily focuses on major regional political and security issues, major regional hotspots, and relations between China and Middle Eastern countries. The Center particularly attaches importance on policy studies and trend assessments. Its Iran studies are well-known both domestically and internationally. It has established long-term connections with major Middle East research institutions around the world and major think tanks in the region, and actively promotes personnel exchanges and academic exchanges.Center for Marine & Polar Studies

The Global Shanghai Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Center") originated from the Belt and Road Research Center established by our institutes in March 2015. It was later renamed the Belt and Road and Shanghai Research Center, before adopting its current name in 2024. Grounded in China's open-economy development and viewing issues from the global political and economic landscape, the Center focuses on Shanghai's role in serving the nation's major development strategies. It explores policy pathways for deepening Shanghai's reforms and addresses key development and reform issues, such as the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region and its function in leading and supporting the establishment of a unified national market.
