Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha serves as senior visiting scholar at SIIS during the period of September 13-20, 2026.

Dr. Bidisha is a professor in the Department of Economics, University of Dhaka. She also served as the Pro Vice-Chancellor (admin) of the University (02/09/2024- 06/05/2026). She did her bachelors as well as master’s from the Department of Economics, University of Dhaka and MSc. from the University of Bath, UK. She obtained PhD in Labour Economics from the University of Nottingham, UK.

Her research interest lies on labour economics, development economics, and microeconometrics. Her work involves both empirical analysis as well as policy focused research with emphasis on developing countries. In the context of Bangladesh, she worked on a number of research projects on employment, gender and women empowerment, demographic dividend and labour market, skill and education, poverty and vulnerability, credit and entrepreneurtship etc.

In addition, Dr. Bidisha was also involved in preparing various policy documents and government flagship objects. She has worked with several international as well as national organizations e.g. the World Bank, ILO, FAO, UNICEF, UN WOMEN, UNFPA, UNDP, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation etc. and has published a number of articles/book chapters in peer reviewed publications. She is also quite active in print and electronic media and regularly writes at national dailies.
