Delegation of the Carter Center Visits SIIS

On September 4, Mr. Christopher Andrew Hobbs, Deputy Director of Strategy and Operations for Peace Programs in the Office of the Vice President of the Carter Center, led a delegation to the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS). The delegation held a closed-door roundtable discussion with SIIS. Li Kaisheng, Vice President of SIIS, received the delegation and delivered opening remarks. Dr. Wu Chunsi, Director of the Center for American Studies, moderated the discussion.

The two sides engaged in an in-depth exchange on U.S. and Chinese policies toward the Global South, the dynamics of competition and prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the region, as well as cross-cutting issues including critical minerals, the conflict in the Middle East, and artificial intelligence and their broader implications.

Wei Hongxia, Chief Research Fellow at the Center for American Studies of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, China International Communications Group (CICG), accompanied the delegation during the visit. From SIIS, Zhou Shixin, Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies; Lou Xiangfei, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Latin American Studies; Li Hongmei, Research Fellow at the Center for South Asian Studies; Su Liuqiang and Zhang Chong, Research Fellows at the Center for American Studies; Yao Le, Research Fellow at the Center for African Studies; and Yu Haijie, Research Fellow at the Center for Middle East Studies, participated in the seminar.
