The Economist Delegation Visits SIIS

On March 26, 2026, a delegation from the Economist led by Deputy Editor-in-Chief Edward Carr, visited the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and held a roundtable discussion with SIIS experts. Dr. Shao Yuqun, Director of the Institute for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Studies at SIIS, presided over the meeting. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on China-U.S. relations, the Taiwan issues, China-Russia relations, China-EU relations, as well as the dynamics in hot-spot regions including Ukraine and the Middle East.
The visiting group also included Geopolitics Editor David Rennie, Beijing Bureau Chief Simon Rabinovitch and China Correspondent Sarah Wu.
SIIS participants comprised Dr. Wu Chunsi, Director of the Center for American Studies; Dr. Zhao Long, Director of the Institute for International Strategy and Security Studies; Dr. Jin Liangxiang, Director of the Center for Middle East Studies; Dr. Long Jing, Deputy Director of the Center for European Studies.
