Delegation of the University of Virginia Visits SIIS

On January 9, 2024, a delegation of the University of Virginia (UVA) visited Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and attended a roundtable themed “Differences in U.S./China Views of the World”.
The roundtable was moderated by Dr. Shao Yuqun, Director of SIIS's Institute for Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macao Studies. Dr. Li Kaisheng, Vice President of SIIS and Ambassador Stephen D. Mull, Vice Provost for Global Affairs of UVA, made opening remarks. Professor Yang Jiemian, Chairman of SIIS's Academic Advisory Council, UVA professors Bruce Reynolds and Harry Harding delivered keynote speeches. Members of the delegation exchanged views and interacted with Chinese and American experts on topics such as how to overcome cultural differences, strengthen mutual understanding, and avoid misunderstandings in people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States. Dr. Ye Yu, Dr. Jiang Lixiao, and Dr. Zhou Shengsheng from SIIS participated in the discussion.
After the roundtable concluded, faculty and students of the delegation had informal table tennis games with SIIS experts and graduate students.
