Nordic scholars visit SIIS

On August 14, 2023, Professor Lassi Heininen of the University of Lapland, Finland, Professor Rasmus Gjedsø Bertelsen of the University of Tromso, Norway, and Senior Consultant Egill Thor Nielsson of the Iceland Research Center visited the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and attended the China-Nordic Cooperation Seminar. The Nordic scholars and and their Chinese counterparts held in-depth discussions on the status and future of China-Nordic cooperation, the impact of great-power politics on regional governance amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and new issues of economic and technological cooperation in the Arctic. The Chinese scholars who participated in the seminar came from the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Polar Research Center of China, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Ocean University, Nanguo Business School and other institutions.

 

On the morning of August 15, Professor Lasse Henning and Dr. Egill Thor Níelsson gave special lectures on Arctic geopolitics, governance and Iceland's Arctic policy. Dr. Zhang Yao, Director of the SIIS Center for Marine and Polar Studies, presided over the lecture, which was attended by relevant researchers from the SIIS Institute for Global Governance Studies and the SIIS Center for Marine and Polar Studies.
