Permanent Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Denmark Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen Visits SIIS

On March 9, 2023, SIIS President Prof. Chen Dongxiao met with Permanent Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Denmark Mr. Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen. The meeting was also attended by Consul General, Royal Danish Consulate General in Shanghai Mr. Mikael Hemniti Winther, Chairman of SIIS Academic Advisory Council Prof. Yang Jiemian, SIIS Vice President Prof. Yang Jian, and Deputy Director-general of Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office Mr. Liu Guangyong, etc.
Following the meeting, Mr. Tranholm-Mikkelsen participated in the Roundtable on "China-EU Cooperation in a Period of Turbulence and Transformation: Opportunities and Prospects", where he engaged with Chinese scholars on various related issues. He emphasized the deep integration of the economies of the EU and China, and expressed Denmark's support for economic globalization, affirming their willingness to contribute positively to the development of EU-China relations.
The Roundtable was moderated by SIIS President Prof. Chen Dongxiao, and Chairman of SIIS Academic Advisory Council Prof. Yang Jiemian delivered the closing remarks. Other speakers included Vice President Prof. Yang Jian, Director of Centre for European Studies of Fudan University Prof. Ding Chun, Executive Vice President of Tongji University Lv Peiming, and Vice-chairman of the Shanghai Center for International Economic Exchanges Prof. Xu Mingqi. The discussion focused on various topics, such as the development and future of China-EU relations, the trend of China-EU economic and trade relations, the achievements and prospects of China-EU cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, sustainable development and higher education. The speakers also introduced the principles and objectives of China’s diplomatic strategy in the context of the Ukrainian crisis.
