CCS Academic Board Holds First Plenary Session of 2025

On March 3, the first 2025 plenary session of the Academic Board of the Centre for China Studies (CCS) was held in a hybrid online and offline format. The meeting reviewed the progress of the center’s work in 2024 and discussed plans for 2025. Attendees included leaders from member institutions such as the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS), Tongji University, East China Normal University (ECNU), Yunnan University (YNU), as well as the University of Dhaka (DU), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), and Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) from Bangladesh. Professor Chen Dongxiao, President of SIIS and Chairman of the CCS Academic Board, and Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice-Chancellor of DU and co-Chairman of the CCS Academic Board, delivered the opening remarks. The session was chaired by Professor Li Kaisheng, Vice President of SIIS.

President Chen presented the CCS’s work and achievements in 2024 and announced the work plan for 2025. Representatives including Dr. Khan, Vice-Chancellor of DU, Duan Xingwu, Vice President of YNU and Board Member, Lv Peiming, Vice President of Tongji University, A. M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of SUST, Mohammad Ismail, Vice-Chancellor of NSTU, Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro Vice-Chancellor of DU, Fan Daqi, Vice President of ACCWS, and Meng Zhongjie, Deputy Secretary of ECNU, shared insights and proposed constructive suggestions for advancing the CCS’s initiatives. All partner organizations reaffirmed their continued support for the center’s work. The meeting concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Khan and President Chen.

Participants at the meeting also included Shamsad Mortuza, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office at DU and Bangladeshi Director of CCS; Zhang Jiuan, Director of the Department of Scientific Research Management and International Cooperation at ACCWS; Zhou Minghao, Deputy Director of the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences at Tongji University; Liu Peng, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Department at YNU; Zhu Juhua, Director of the Foreign Affairs Department at SIIS; Liu Zongyi, Director of the Center for South Asian Studies at SIIS and Chinese Director of CCS; along with researchers from the Center for South Asian Studies at SIIS, including Li Hongmei, Tan Chenyi, Zhu Shicheng, and Zhang Xiaoyin.
