SIIS Hosts the symposium on "Building Healthy, Stable, and Sustainable China-US Relations: in Commemoration of the 45th Anniversary of China-US Diplomatic Relations"

On January 29, 2024, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), and China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) jointly held  the symposium on "Building Healthy, Stable, and Sustainable China-US Relations: in Commemoration of the 45th Anniversary of China-US Diplomatic Relations" in Washington D.C.. Amb. Yang Wanming, president of the CPAFFC,  Prof. Chen Dongxiao, President of the SIIS, and Rick Waters, Managing Director of Eurasia Group's China Practice delivered opening speeches. Minister Xu Xueyuan of the Chinese Embassy in the United States attended the symposium, and James Chau, President of the CUSEFAND moderated the symposium. At a critical historical moment on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the meeting invited scholars from Tsinghua University, Eurasia Group, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the American Institute for Peace, the Brookings Institution, Georgetown University, the Energy Foundation, the Stimson Center, the Wilson Center, and Johns Hopkins University to  have an in-depth discussion on political and diplomatic relations between China and the US, climate change and sustainable development, and people-to-people exchanges. The experts at the meeting agreed that China and the United States need to further strengthen communication, effectively manage risks, and promote the healthy and strive to maintain a stable relationship.
