SIIS and FES Co-organized the Symposium on “Global Climate Governance 2024--Discovering Paths for Transformation Climate Partnerships in Turbulent Times”

On January 24-25, 2024, the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Shanghai Representative Office (FES) co-organized an international symposium on "Global Climate Governance 2024--Discovering Paths for Transformation Climate Partnerships in Turbulent Times".

The symposium was organized around the topics of "Review of 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28)", "How to Build on the Global Stocktake Results to Close the Emissions Gap by 2030", "International Cooperation on Technology & Innovation, Inclusion and Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) tools", and "Moving Towards Climate Resilience and Successfully Addressing Loss and Damage". It was attended by nearly 30 experts, scholars, international organizations and representatives of relevant governmental departments from Europe and China, both in an offline and an online format. Mr. Li Kaisheng, Vice-President of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), and Mr. Benjiamin Reichenbach, Chief Representative of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Shanghai Representative Office delivered opening speeches for the conference.

      On January 25th, the participating experts visited the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchanges (SEEE) and held a discussion with SEEE on climate governance. Ms. Li Jin, Vice General Manager of SEEE, introduced the development plan of SEEE and the innovations of the Exchange in the field of carbon market and carbon finance. Afterwards, the experts held discussions on the relationship between China's national carbon market and local carbon markets, Germany's experience in carbon neutrality and industry chain, and the development of EU ETS.
