2023/06/21

SIIS President Chen Dongxiao met with two Russian academic delegations from the Higher School of Economics University (HSE University) and Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) on June 19, 2023. President Chen said the delegations were the first Russian scholars that SIIS had hosted since the start of Covid-19, and he very much welcomed the opportunity for in-person, in-depth discussions.  Alexander Lukin, Head of Department of International Relations at HSE University, said he looked to make full use of the visit by conducting in-depth and comprehensive exchanges with Chinese counterparts.

The Russian scholars and their Chinese hosts shared views on a wide range of major issues, from China-U.S. relations and cross-strait relations to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, China-Russia political relations, and the Global South. Vladimir Yakunin, Head of Department of Public Policy at MSU, believed that the Russia-Ukraine conflict gave Chinese scholars a good opportunity to observe the future development of international relations, as the conflict is not only between Russia and Ukraine, but has global implications that also affect China.
