Chairperson of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of Thailand Pikulkeaw Krairiksh Visits SIIS

On the afternoon of June 16, 2023, SIIS President Prof. Chen Dongxiao had a meeting with Mrs. Pikulkeaw Krairiksh, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of Thailand. Mrs. Pikulkeaw Krairiksh led a delegation comprising members of the Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as some members of the Committee on Human Rights, Rights, Freedoms and Consumer Protection of the Thai Senate, and representatives from the Thai Chamber of Commerce in China.

SIIS President Prof. Chen Dongxiao warmly welcomed the visit of Chairperson Pikulkeaw Krairiksh and her delegation to the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. He emphasized that the close relationship between China and Thailand is not only reflected in bilateral ties but also in the interactions between the people of both countries. The visit of Chairperson Pikulkeaw Krairiksh and her delegation to SIIS injects new impetus into further deepening the exchanges and cooperation in the cultural and humanities fields between the two countries.

During the meeting, the delegation and SIIS scholars engaged in an interactive discussion on various pressing international issues, including the current global situation, China-US relations and the Taiwan question, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and China's role, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Dr. Shao Yuqun, Director of the Institute for Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao Studies, Dr. Zhao Long, Deputy Director of the Institute for Global Governance Studies, and Dr. Wang Zhongmei, Director of the Institute for World Economy Studies, participated in the roundtable discussion and delivered their respective presentations. The meeting concluded with closing remarks from Mr. He Yonghong, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the China National People's Congress.
