SIIS held the symposium on “Resilience Governance of Anthropocene Climate-Energy-Food Security Crises”

On 20 September 2022, the symposium on “Resilience Governance of Anthropocene Climate-Energy-Food Security Crises”, co-organized by Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), was held with success. Chinese and European scholars had warm and thoughtful discussions on the climate-energy-food security crisis and possible solutions for it.

SIIS President Chen Dongxiao and Dr. Florian Krampe, Director of the Climate Change and Risk Programme at SIPRI, both delivered opening remarks.

Dr. Elisabeth L. Rosvold, Senior Researcher at NUPI, moderated the first session. Pan Jiahua, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Dr. Albert Norstrom, Head of Knowledge of the Global Resilience Partnership of the Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University; Dr. Dan Guttman, fellow and co-chair International Panel OF US National Academy of Public Administration; Dr. Chai Qimin, Director of International Cooperation Department at China’s National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, all made presentations respectively.

 

The speakers in the second session included Hafsa Maalim, Office of the Commissioner of the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security at African Union; Ma Jun, Founding Director of the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs; Dr. Cedric De Coning, Research Professor of the Center for UN and Global Governance at NUPI, Dr. Zhang Rui, Associate Research Fellow of Institute of Economics and Technology at the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization and Dr. Peter Saundry, Adjunct Professor of Energy at John Hopkins University. Dr. Yu Hongyuan, Director of Institute for Comparative Politics and Public Policy at SIIS hosted this session.

 

To conclude, Dr. Chao Qingchen, Director-General of National Climate Center and Dr. Claire McAllister, Project Lead for the Environment of Peace 2022 at SIPRI, both gave closing remarks. Dr. Zhu Yunjie, Associate Research Fellow of Institute for Comparative Politics and Public Policy at SIIS, attended the meeting.
