SIIS held the International Symposium on "Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Normalization of China-Japan Diplomatic Relations"

On 30 July 2022, the International Symposium on “Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Normalization of China-Japan Diplomatic Relations”, co-organised by the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and the East Asian Community Studies Institute, Japan and supported by the Waseda Institute of Contemporary Chinese Studies, Japan, was held with success.
Honorable Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, former Japanese Prime Minister and now President of the East Asian Community Institute, delivered the opening remarks. Prof. Rumi Aoyama, director of Waseda Institute of Contemporary Chinese Studies, chaired the first session in which Prof. Yang Bojiang, director of Institute of Japanese Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Prof. Hu Lingyuan, director of Center for Japanese Studies at Fudan University, Associate Prof. Mike Mochizuki from George Washington University and Prof. Kiyoshi Sugawa, senior fellow of the East Asian Community Institute, gave insightful remarks and discussed the political dynamics in East Asia.
Prof. Chen Zilei, director of SUIBE Center for Japanese Economic Studies, Prof. Cai Liang, secretary general of the Center for China-Japan Relations Studies at SIIS, Prof. Shujiro Urata, honorary professor from the Waseda University and Prof. Kenji Someno, visiting senior fellow of the Waseda Institute of Contemporary Chinese Studies, had warm exchanges on economic dynamics in East Asia and the possibilities for cooperation between the two countries. Prof. Wu Jinan, senior research fellow from SIIS moderated the second session. SIIS president Prof. Chen Dongxiao delivered a closing speech in the end.
Prof. Yang Jiemian, chairman of SIIS Academic Affairs Council, also gave a short remark at the meeting. Both Ms. Zhu Juhua, director of the International Exchange Department and Dr. Zhou Shengsheng, assistant research fellow at SIIS attended the meeting as well.
