Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council Saqr Ghobash Visits SIIS

  

On September 15, 2023, SIIS President Prof. Chen Dongxiao met with H.E. Mr. Saqr Ghobash, the Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). 

Prof. Chen Dongxiao welcomed the FNC Speaker and his accompanying delegation, underscoring the importance of their visit in strengthening relations across various domains, adding that the visit constitutes an impetus to the academic and diplomatic cooperation between the UAE and China. He also praised the existing cooperation with research centres in the UAE, highlighting the promising prospects between the two countries for developing cooperation between them, especially in areas of environment, climate change and technology.

H.E. Mr. Saqr Ghobash stressed that among the objectives of the visit to China is to get acquainted with academic and research work and to learn about the vision of Chinese experts and academics for future global trends, praising the work of SIIS, which is known worldwide for its studies in the fields of politics and diplomacy. The two sides engaged in a deep and candid exchange of views on current international situations, China-UAE cooperation, hot issues in the Middle East, regional security and development.

Scholars from SIIS, including Prof. Li Weijian, Dr. Jin Liangxiang, Dr. Zhou Yiqi, and Dr. Liu Xin from the Center for West Asian and African Studies, as well as Dr. Wang Yuzhu and Dr. Jiang Lixiao from the Institute of World Economy, participated in the discussion.
