Delegation of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations visits SIIS

On May 21, 2024, Prof. Ali Ahani, Political Advisor to the President of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ministry, visited SIIS. The delegation also included Prof. Mohammadtaghi Moayed, secretary-general of SCFR, Former Vice Minister of Education Ministry, Former Ambassador; Dr. Masoud Asadollahi, University Professor and Middle East Expert, and others. The delegation came to China at the invitation of the International Department, Central Committee of CPC. Prof. Li Kaisheng, Vice President of SIIS, welcomed the delegation and expressed deep condolences over the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
The delegation attended the Roundtable hosted by SIIS. Prof. Li Kaisheng and Prof. Ali Ahani delivered opening remarks. Prof. Yang Jiemian, Chairman of SIIS Academic Advisory Council and Prof. Ali Ahani delivered keynote speeches. Prof. Yang Jiemian pointed out that it is of profound significance to discuss “three global initiatives” –the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative – and a community with a shared future for mankind. He explained China's concept of global governance from three aspects: extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. Prof. Ali Ahani stressed that China and Iran’s communications on increasing the voices and representation are conducive to safeguarding the interests of developing countries. He expected international organizations led by emerging powers, especially those led by China, to play a greater role in global and regional affairs. The two sides also exchanged views on China-Iran relations, the situation in the Middle East, think tank cooperation and other issues of common concern.
The Roundtable was moderated by Prof. Li Kaisheng. Other speakers included Dr. Wu Chunsi, Director of the Institute for International Strategic and Security Studies, SIIS; Dr. Masoud Asadollahi, University Professor and Middle East Expert; and Dr. Jin Liangxiang, Senior Research Fellow of the Center for West Asian and African Studies, SIIS. Mr. Khalil Abdi, Deputy Consul of the Consulate General of Iran in Shanghai, accompanied the delegation. Some of the SIIS scholars also attended the roundtable.
