Shanghai Expo has opened a road of “expo diplomacy” with Chinese characteristics. It is both an innovation of the expo per se and an innovation of the Chinese diplomacy as well, i.e., diplomacy embarked on around an important international event. Shanghai Expo has accomplished great achievements in political diplomacy, economic and science/technology diplomacy, public diplomacy and cultural diplomacy, has entrenched China’s interaction with the world, has initiated the theme of the times regarding expo diplomacy, has exhibited China’s international image of peace and development, has stepped up China’s comprehensive capability of hosting giant international event, and opened a new way of integrating foreign service at local level into the overall diplomacy of a nation. Expo diplomacy will exert far-reaching significance.
