President Yang Jiemian
Jiemian YANG received his B.A. at the Shanghai Teachers’ University, M.A. at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies (SIIS) and M.A. at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, Ph.D. at the Shanghai International Studies University. Currently he is Senior Fellow and President at the SIIS,Member of Shanghai Committee of People's Political Consultative Conference. Concurrently, Dr. Yang is on the boards of the China National Association for International Studies, the Chinese People Institute of Foreign Affairs, the National Association of China-U.S. Friendship, the National Association of American Studies, Shanghai Association of International Relations, Shanghai Association of Taiwan Studies and many other organizations.Dr. Yang is also a guest professor/fellow at the PLA National Defense University, Shanghai International Studies University and Tongji Universit. His honors include National Special Awards, Shanghai Outstanding Talent Award and several Shanghai Awards in Social Sciences.

Dr. Yang has published many papers or books on international relations and American foreign policies. His most recent books include:

Vice President Chen Dongxiao
CHEN Dongxiao:Born in 1967, Vice President of SIIS, and Ph.D. in Law received from the Department of International Politics of Fudan University. He was formerly Director of the Department of International Organizations and International Law, Director of the Department of American studies, and Director of the Center of the Department of American Studies successively since he had joined SIIS in 1993. He had been teaching at the Department of International Politics of Fudan University until 1993.

Chen specializes in the studies of U.S. foreign policy, Sino-U.S. relations and UN collective security. He is supervising and working on research projects entrusted by China National Foundation of Social Sciences Studies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Office of Taiwan Affairs and so on. His main published writings in recent years are:
“China: Active in Multilateral Strategy” (China’s Role in International System, Yu Xintian, et al., China Encyclopedia Press House, 2008);

  • “Evolution and Connotation of U.S. Perception of International System---Analyzing the Future of Sino-U.S. Interaction on the Reform of the UN Security Mechanism, Contemporary International Relations, 2008, No.1;
  • “Complexity and Transformational Structure of China-US Relations”(Suisheng Zhao ed., China-US Relations Transformed: Perspectives and Strategic Interactions, Routledge, 2008);

He is co-author of United Nations: New Agendas and New Challenges, Current Affairs Press, 2005. He also contributed chapters to the books Grand System Toward Multi-Polar & Multi-Actor (Yang Jiemian (ed), Tianjin People’s Publishing House, 2008); Grand Matching-up: China-U.S. Mutual Strategies and Policies, (author: Yang Jiemian, Tianjing People's Publishing House, March 2007), etc. Chen is currently senior expert of Center of Sino-U.S. Relations Studies, China Institute of International Studies and invited senior fellow of China Center for Peace and Development Studies. He was visiting fellow at Japan Institute Of International Affairs between 1996 and 1997.

Vice President YANG Jian
YANG Jian:Born in 1962, Vice President of SIIS. He received his doctorate in economics from Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS). In addition, Yang Jian has his master's degree in history from Soochow University. His key areas of specialization include: the International Political Economy (IPE), China’s regional strategy in Asia, the relation cross Taiwan Strait. Prior to joining SIIS, YANG Jian was the deputy director of the department of IPE in the Institute of World Economy, SASS, and served as the deputy secretary general of the Center for Taiwan Studies in SASS. From 2006 to 2008 he worked as a member of the editorial board for Review of Policy Research, a journal of the political section of the American Political Science Association. In 2008 he accepted an honorary position as a researcher in the Centre for Studies on the Relations cross Taiwan Strait that is affiliated to the China’s central government. His main published writings carried in journals in recent years are: Structural Power, International competition in Setting Technical Standards and China’s Standard Strategy. World Economy Studies, No9, 2007. Power Relationship and the Resource Distribution in the Cyber-space. International Relation Studies, No.1,2008. An Analysis on the Motives of the Pro-Taiwan Stance of the US Congressmen. Taiwan Research Quarterly, No.1, 2008. Relative Gain, Absolute Gain and Taiwan’s Regional Strategy in East Asia. Contemporary Asia-Pacific Studies No.11, 2006. China’s Peaceful Rising and the Restoration of the momentum for reunification in Taiwan’s Society. China Review, No.6, 2006. YANG Jian was also the coauthor of several books, including Annual Report on China’s International Status (2004-2008), Exploring the Upgrading Process of China’s Open-up Strategy (2008), A Comparative Study on the Modes of Economic Development. (2008), The history of Kuomintang(KMT)(2003). YANG Jian stayed in Sciences Po in Paris as a visiting scholar in 2004, and did academic research in Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universit?t Frankfurt in Germany for 3 months in 2007.
